Bocea, Marian
Associate Professor
Dr. Bocea received B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees in Mathematics from University of Craiova, Romania, and M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Mathematical Sciences from Carnegie Mellon University. Prior to joining the faculty at Loyola, he held a postdoctoral position as Burgess Assistant Professor at University of Utah, and was an Assistant Professor at North Dakota State University. His research interests are in Partial Differential Equations and Calculus of Variations, motivated by applications to Materials Science (e.g. dielectric breakdown, polycrystal plasticity, thin films of martensitic materials, shape memory alloys, defects and fracture in crystalline solids, homogenization and optimal design of composite materials). Since 2008, Dr. Bocea's research has been supported by grants from the U.S. National Science Foundation.
