Kevin Flaherty, S.J.
Chaplain for Ignatian Spirituality
Kevin Flaherty, S.J. returns to Loyola as the Chaplain for Ignatian Spirituality who collaborates with others to provide pastoral presence, spiritual direction, sacramental leadership, and public presentations on Jesuit, Catholic mission and identity. Although Kevin spent more than thirty years in ministry in Peru, he enjoyed his time at Loyola from 2012 to 2017, as Director of the Jesuit First Studies Formation Program and through collaboration in Campus Ministry.
Before beginning ministry in Peru, Kevin completed a Master’s in Pastoral Counseling at Loyola in 1977. After his ordination to priesthood in 1983, he ministered at St. Ignatius Parish in Rogers Park for two years, and then, for six years in a poor parish in Lima, Peru where he continued to assist on weekends. He returned to Chicago for a period of studies for a Doctor of Ministry degree and a professional certificate in Pastoral Psychotherapy from Lutheran General Hospital. In Peru these studies became the basis for ministry in the formation of Jesuits, the education and accompaniment of lay and religious groups, and the formation of a Counseling Psychology program at our Jesuit University, Ruiz de Montoya.
Kevin looks forward to sharing the gifts he has received from others in Chicago and Peru with the diverse ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½Community in our mission to work together to expand knowledge through learning, justice, and faith.
